Testimony: Jeninne Van Sickle

March 26, 2020
Testimonies, big and small, remind us that God is the main character of our stories.

Testifying to Christ’s work in our lives give us a peek into what Heaven’s up to on Earth. They put our stories in perspective, as part of God’s bigger picture. They can bring us closer to God and connect us with others in ways normal stories of hope, perseverance and love cannot do.

Take a look at Jennine Van Sickle’s testimony. As you hear this testimony, proclaim your own…because when we realize we have a voice to proclaim the faithfulness of God, the darkness in our lives begins to lose its grip.

Generosity of the Church

March 26, 2020

Steve Painter, Chair of Staff-Parish Relations Committee, shares an update of the church and how your continued giving is impacting and furthering the mission of the church even while we’re practicing social distancing.

One of the most encouraging things we’ve experienced in the midst of this time we’re in, is the generosity of the church that calls University Carillon home. The response we receive when our staff reaches out to our members are summed up by the response, “How can we help?”

Some of the ways you’ve done just that include Community Pantry drop offs, sharing the livestream gatherings on your Facebook page, participating in online discipleship, and being the church to your neighbors. Thank you!

While our in-person gatherings have been on pause due to social distancing, our mission to help anyone and everyone become a follower of Jesus has become stronger. The church is a resilient being, and we’re seeing this even in the midst of social distancing.

We look forward to the day we get to worship together in person, but today we’ve got our sights set on Jesus … will you help us continue reaching people for the glory of God and the sake of the world?

March 26: Kids Devotional on Jesus Calming The Storm

Hey Kids! Our friend, Julie, has a fun craft for you to do and a story from scripture to share about how Jesus will always be with you!

Flip Book Craft
What you’ll need: paper, scissors, staples and your parents

Scripture: Mark 4:35–41
As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.

Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

March 25: Clubhouse Lesson on Prayer

We’re sad we couldn’t be with our kiddos tonight for Wednesday Nights in the Clubhouse, so we’re bringing the Clubhouse to you!

Kids, siblings and parents gather round to hear about prayer from our key verse: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Philippians 4:6)

We’ve also have a quick, easy and fun craft for you to do! What you’ll need: paper, crayons and your hand!

March 25: Kids Devotional

Hey Kids! Hear what one our Kids Ministry Teachers, Megan, has to say about the scripture:

“May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

—Romans 15:5–6

Thanks for Gathering with Us!

March 23, 2020

Hey church! It was great worshipping with you this past weekend over livestream at all four of our online gatherings!

Keep an eye out on how you can stay connected throughout the week (kids, youth and adults). The staff is in process of creating ways to learn about Jesus in the comfort and safety of your own homes and neighborhoods during this time.

Don’t forget you can still submit prayer requests and participate in the offering by visiting ucumc.net/live.

Kids Ministry: LOFT Skit—The Prodigal Son

March 21-22, 2020

Jump into the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–32) in this reenactment brought to you by the LOFT staff, with special guest appearances from the pastors.

Questions to reflect on:
– Which brother do you think you are most like? Why?
– What can we learn about forgiveness from the story?
– What do we learn about God from the father in the story?
– How can you practice forgiveness this week?

Challenges this week:
– Find a way to practice radical forgiveness this week.
– Think of something that has happened to you that you have not forgiven to this point. Find a way to forgive that person this week.

First Look

March 20, 2020

Good morning, church!
We’re here to give you a first look into the scripture we’re sharing this weekend. Take some time to prepare and pray through God’s Word which is alive and well! Let us know your thoughts below (we want to know the kiddos’ thoughts, too)!

This weekend’s scripture is John 5:1–15 (ESV). You can find that here: biblegateway.com/passage/…

To get the ball rolling:
– Why is Jesus asking this man if he wants to be well, given his circumstances?
– After hearing the man’s response, what are your thoughts?
