WOMEN'S MINISTRY

The mission of Women’s Ministries at UCUMC is to lead, equip, encourage and enrich each other in our relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe that, as we grow and mature in godliness, we become better equipped to serve our families, our church and our community. We hope that, at every event, every study, every group of women’s ministries, you will feel welcome and accepted. This ministry is open to women of all ages, needs and stages in their lives.

Women's Bible/Book Studies

We strive to offer a variety of Bible/book studies for whatever season of life you’re in. We want you to find a place to grow and be encouraged. These studies are offered throughout the year during various mornings and evenings. Studies include small group time, discussion and prayer. This is a wonderful opportunity to support each other while developing long-lasting friendships.

DISCIPLE STUDY GROUPS

DISCIPLE studies start the end of August or early September; please contact the church for class information.

DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at growing strong Christian leaders (developed and copyrighted by Cokesbury books). The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. To aid understanding of the Bible, DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, personal Bible reading and study by participants, and dynamic group discussion. The program has four phases:

DISCIPLE I: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY

This 34-week overview of the entire Bible requires 30 minutes daily in preparation for weekly group meetings, and a 2.5 hour meeting weekly.

DISCIPLE II: INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD

This 32-week study proclaims the transforming power of Scripture while teaching Bible study skills. The study also emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately

DISCIPLE III: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word “You” in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. Participants in this 32-week study will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets (with the exception of Daniel), and all thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul, and the OT books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles (to establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God).

DISCIPLE IV: UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE

The final study in the program is a 32-week concentration on “the Writings” (Old Testament books not in the Torah or the Prophets), the Gospel of John, Revelation, and Psalms (Israel’s book of hymns and prayers, which leads to an emphasis on worship in this phase). The entire study suggests a sense of living toward the climax of the Bible’s overall message.
